Materials are everything when it comes to either drawing and painting. As an artist, make sure to choose medium that one feels comfortable using. So many mediums that are up for great use, all would depend on personal choice and preference, whatever floats the boat deserves to go have a try on.

Some of common paint materials there is are the watercolors, acrylic and the oil paints. Out of these three, watercolor is pretty much the generic ones, almost all people know what it is and it costs cheaper compared to other materials, well that would depend on the brand as well. However, when using such wet painting tool, ordinary paper or canvas may not work because it wrinkles easily, special papers needs to be used along this.

Acrylic are fast drying, pretty much perfect for those who want it less messier. These paints are often water based, they can get stacked on the canvas but when there needs to have corrections, then wiping is possible. But for beginners, this may be hard to manipulate specially when it comes to blending. Oil paints are pretty much the most expensive out of the three but this have the richest color and superb quality. When the paint dries it usually is close enough to the actual hue when it is still wet.

Aside from these materials, of course brushes are also important and plays a huge role to the finish product. And, one must remember that each medium has a suitable brush. Watercolor should go hand in hand with the round ones, acrylic is perfect with the synthetic bristles and oil paint are for synthetic mix with the fiber tip.

Once these components are settled already, then next thing to do is finding for the inspiration so that the very first masterpiece will be done. Look around, even the simplest thing could lit up the imagination of anyone. It would be a great start to paint something with images or sights as guide.

The great thing about painting is that, one does not have to follow any rules at all. It is all up to the artist whatever stroke, color, shape that needs to be in the canvas. The most important thing is that it serves its purpose as an outlet of things and feeling that are way too hard to communicate using words.

When trying to mix colors, an individual should have a background knowledge about the shades that are found in the color wheel. That is the easiest way to formulate whatever shade one desires. That way when there is a need to mix secondary and tertiary colors, one has the idea how to make it come out.
